Healy and Son Dumpster Rental is a small operation on purpose. James Healy grew up around South Jackson and spent his twenties doing framing and remodel work for contractors around Hinds County, and he kept running into the same headache other tradesmen complained about — a dumpster company that quoted one price on the phone and billed a different one after the job was done, or a container that showed up a day late because the guy who answered the phone was three states away and had never actually seen the address. In 2011 he bought a used roll-off truck, parked it at a small yard off Greenway Drive Ext near Byram, and started hauling under his own name.

There was no office staff and no call center. Just James, one truck, and a promise that the number he gave a customer over the phone was the number on the invoice. Fifteen years on, the business has more trucks and more containers, but that part has not changed. One Truck Out of a Yard Near Byram

We get more repeat business from contractors than from any advertising we have bought, and we like it that way — it means the work is doing the talking.

James still drives routes most weeks, and it is not unusual for him to be the one backing a 20-yard or 30-yard container up a driveway on a job he quoted himself that morning. Staying small enough that the owner still answers the phone is a choice, not something we have not gotten around to fixing. It keeps us honest about what our trucks and crew can actually deliver.
