Concrete and Heavy Debris Disposal in Jackson
Concrete, brick, block and dirt are dense enough to hit a truck's legal weight limit long before a container looks full. We size heavy-debris jobs by weight, not volume, and won't haul a load that's over the line. Flat rate, no scale-ticket surprises.

Most dumpster rentals are a volume question: how much stuff, what size box. Concrete and heavy debris flip that around. A cubic yard of broken concrete weighs about as much as a small car, and a roll-off truck has a legal weight it can carry on Mississippi roads whether the container looks full or not. Order the wrong size and you don't get a "little extra" charge — you get a container the truck cannot legally lift off your driveway.
We deliver a lot of dedicated heavy-debris containers around Jackson, because the ground here hands us more of this work than most places do. Yazoo clay underlies a huge share of the metro, and it swells when wet and shrinks when it dries out, which cracks and heaves driveways, patios, walkways and slab foundations on a cycle that never really stops. That's not a reason to guess at a size. Tell us what you're tearing out — concrete, brick, block, dirt, or some mix — and we'll size the container to the material, not just the hole it leaves behind.
Flat-rate pricing, and if a load comes in heavier than the truck can legally carry, we'll say so before it becomes your problem out on the road.

Weight Is the Problem, Not Volume
A dumpster is rated to hold a certain tonnage before it's legally too heavy to move — not because the box would tip, but because a loaded roll-off truck has to stay under the weight limits set for public roads. Concrete, brick, block, dirt and stone are all dense enough to blow past that tonnage while the container still looks half empty. That's the whole reason a dedicated heavy-debris container exists: it's built shorter and stouter than a standard box, sized so a full load is still a legal load.
Here's roughly what you're dealing with, by material, per cubic yard:
| Material | Approx. weight per cubic yard |
|---|---|
| Broken concrete (with rebar) | 2,000–3,000 lb |
| Brick | 3,000–3,500 lb |
| Concrete block | 2,400–3,000 lb |
| Clean fill dirt (dry) | 2,000–2,200 lb |
| Wet Yazoo clay | 2,700–3,200 lb |
| Stone / gravel | 2,400–2,900 lb |
| Asphalt (broken) | 2,000–2,700 lb |
Put a full 20 yard of broken concrete on paper and you're at 20 to 30 tons. No roll-off truck on the road is built to carry that, which is why we send a 10 yard or 15 yard heavy container instead of the bigger box that would be the obvious choice for anything else.
Yazoo Clay: Why Jackson Generates So Much Concrete Debris
Yazoo clay is the soil most of the Jackson metro is built on, and it doesn't sit still. It expands when it soaks up water and contracts hard when it dries out, and that swing repeats every year through our wet springs and hot, dry summer stretches. A driveway, patio or garage slab poured over it will eventually crack, heave or settle unevenly, sometimes just a few years after it was poured. Foundation repair crews see it constantly — piering and slab stabilization work often means breaking out and hauling off a section of old concrete first.
It's the Jackson-area equivalent of the frost heave problem northern cities deal with every winter, except here it's a soil-moisture cycle instead of a freeze-thaw one, and it runs all year rather than just in cold months. It's also why we ask upfront whether a job is a driveway tear-out, a foundation perimeter dig, or a patio demo — the answer changes how much weight we expect and which size container we send.
Legal Weight Limits and Why We Size by Tonnage, Not Yardage
A fully loaded truck is generally capped around 80,000 pounds gross weight on public roads, with axle weights spread out under federal weight rules. That cap is what actually decides whether a full container of concrete can legally leave your property, regardless of how big the box looks sitting in your driveway. A 20 or 30 yard container is the right call for framing lumber, drywall and general construction debris, but loaded with concrete or wet clay it would run tens of thousands of pounds over what a truck can legally carry.
That's why heavy debris gets a dedicated 10 or 15 yard container instead of the bigger sizes we'd normally recommend for a job that size. It looks like a smaller dumpster for a big tear-out, but it's sized for what the material actually weighs, not how much space it takes up. Call (769) 246-8432 and tell us what's coming out — driveway, patio, foundation, retaining wall — and we'll size it right the first time.
Clean Concrete Costs Less Than Mixed Debris
Concrete, brick and block that come out of the ground clean — without wood, drywall, roofing, trash or a heavy coating of dirt mixed in — are generally the cheaper category to dispose of, and get diverted for use as fill or aggregate rather than taking up landfill space. Embedded rebar and wire mesh are normal in demolition concrete and don't disqualify a load as clean; that gets separated out during processing. What does change the price is everything else that tends to ride along on a typical tear-out.
Mississippi law (Miss. Code § 17-17-15) bars mixing hazardous waste in with ordinary trash and demolition debris, so anything like old paint, solvents or fluorescent bulbs from a garage or basement demo needs to go through the city's household hazardous waste program instead of into a container with your concrete. Our demolition debris page covers what else has to be handled separately. Keep the concrete pile separate from the general demo pile on site if you can, and the container we send stays priced as heavy debris instead of mixed construction waste.
Why We Will Refuse to Haul an Overweight Container
If a heavy-debris container comes in over its rated weight, we won't hook it and drive off — that's not us being difficult, it's the law. An overweight roll-off is a truck out of compliance the moment it's on the road, which is a real liability for our driver and a problem that lands back on you if the load ever gets weighed. We'd rather have that conversation in your driveway, with a plan to split the load into a second container, than have it happen out on I-55 or I-20.
This is also why we ask questions before we deliver instead of after. Tell us it's a driveway slab, a foundation perimeter, or a mix of dirt and block, and we'll send the right size the first time. Every container goes down on driveway protection boards as standard, no extra charge, whether it's holding concrete or a light cleanout.

Which dumpster for concrete & heavy debris in Jackson?
We would rather talk you down a size than sell you air. These are the boxes that suit this work.
10 Yard Dumpster Dumpster
The default for a driveway tear-out, a foundation perimeter dig, or a load of clean broken concrete. Low sides, short footprint, and it hits its weight rating long before it looks full, which is exactly the point with Yazoo clay pushing so much of this work our way.
Size details 15Cubic yards15 Yard Dumpster Dumpster
A step up when the concrete is mixed with some lighter demo debris, like a patio tear-out that also pulled up a wood deck or fence, or a driveway slab with a good bit of base gravel underneath.
Size details 20Cubic yards20 Yard Dumpster Dumpster
Only for genuinely mixed loads where heavy material is a modest share of the total, such as a garage demo with a concrete slab plus framing and drywall. We'll tell you on the phone if your job really needs the 10 instead.

Concrete & Heavy Debris across Jackson and Hinds County
Healy and Son Dumpster Rental runs out of 5285 Greenway Drive Ext in South Jackson, near Byram, and heavy-debris containers make up a good share of what leaves that yard. We deliver concrete and heavy debris containers across Jackson and Hinds County, out to Byram, Clinton and Raymond, east into Rankin County toward Flowood, Pearl and Brandon, and north into Madison County to Madison and Ridgeland.
For what's accepted and how, we point customers to the City of Jackson's trash and recycling page and, for state-level guidance on solid waste handling, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality's solid waste guidance. Paint, batteries, oils and similar hazardous items from a demo project should go through the city's household hazardous waste program rather than into a concrete or debris container. If your job is out in Hinds County but outside city limits, the same weight and material rules apply — we'll walk you through it on the phone.
James Healy has run this yard since 2011. Fifteen years of Yazoo clay driveways and foundation jobs means we can usually size a concrete tear-out correctly from a two-minute phone call.

FAQs
Concrete & Heavy Debris questions, answered
How much does a 10 yard concrete dumpster cost in Jackson?
It depends on the material and the tonnage allowance, not just the box size. Clean broken concrete, brick or dirt prices lower than a mixed load with wood, roofing or trash in it. Tell us what's coming out when you call and we'll give you a flat number before we deliver.
Can I put dirt and concrete in the same dumpster?
You can, but it usually costs more once the load is mixed rather than clean. If you have a real volume of both from a foundation or driveway job, we'll often size two separate loads instead of combining them — ask when you call (769) 246-8432.
Does rebar disqualify concrete from being 'clean'?
Generally no. Embedded rebar and wire mesh are normal in demolition concrete and get separated out during processing. What actually changes the price is wood, drywall, roofing, trash or a heavy coating of dirt mixed in with the concrete.
Why is a 10 yard dumpster the right size for a big driveway tear-out?
Because weight, not the size of the driveway, is what limits the load. A 20 yard filled with broken concrete could weigh 20 tons or more, which no roll-off truck can legally haul. A 10 or 15 yard heavy container is sized so a full load stays under the legal limit. See our 10 yard dumpster page for dimensions.
Why does Jackson have so much concrete and foundation debris work?
Yazoo clay. It's the soil under most of the metro, and it swells and shrinks with wet and dry cycles enough to crack and heave driveways, patios and slab foundations over time. Foundation repair and driveway replacement are two of the most common jobs that bring concrete debris our way.
What if my container ends up too heavy to haul?
We'll tell you before it leaves your driveway, not after. An overweight roll-off is not something we'll hook up and drive — it's a compliance and safety issue for the driver. We'll split the overage into a second container rather than send an illegal load down the road.
